The production celebrated the 230th anniversary of the world premiere of W. A. Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni in Prague. Initiated by Maestro Plácido Domingo, who took a role of an artistic director and a conductor in this performance. The Domingo - Mozart - Prague 2017 project is a result of several years of rigorous work, negotiations and partnerships.

The  celebration of a significant historical anniversary - Mozart’s world premiere of the Don Giovanni opera - took place in the exact same theatre on the exact same date 230 years later - 27th and 29th October in the Estates Theatre in Prague - the only remaining theatre where W. A. Mozart performed. With the aim of highlighting the exceptionality and rich cultural and musical history of Prague and the Czech Republic, the project succeeded to gain support of major Czech institutions, such as the Ministry of Culture. The project gained important    media partners and benefactors from both Czech Republic and Europe contributed to the project with buying tickets to the performance with special benefits.

Maestro Domingo himself chose both international (winners of his competition Operalia) and Czech soloist for this production. The project included important activities such as creation of a short documentary movie, a worldwide broadcast of the performance and a live transmission to the piazza of the National Theatre. Exclusive additional events for honored guests and Maestro and his family took place after both performances.
